Whether you’re assembling it yourself, your wedding planner is providing one, or you’re purchasing one from Amazon, your wedding day emergency kit is a must-have for a smooth wedding day! Part of good wedding planning is to account for the unexpected. And while we hope that Aunt Flo doesn’t come to visit and you avoid any major wardrobe malfunctions on this special day, being prepared just in case can make the difference between an inconvenience-turned-funny-memory and a complete disaster! Let’s take a look at the items I consider to be absolute must-haves for your emergency bag!
Extra phone chargers — you can’t have too many of these lying around. No one wants a dead cell phone!
Extra hair pins and hair spray (Especially for humid days!)
Sunscreen— especially if you’re ghostly white, like myself. The last thing you need is a sunburn to start your honeymoon!
Double sided tape— Literally so many applications.
Boob tape— Cuz… You know.
Cold and allergy medications — With the busy schedule, extra stress, and elevated fast food and alcohol intake the weeks before the wedding, you wanna to be prepared in case you come down sick! While you can hopefully prevent this with good rest, lots of water, and Vitamin C supplements, it’s good to have some medicine on hand just in case. You should have Advil/Tylenol, as well as Zyrtec/Claratin for allergies (probably not Benadryl so you don’t get drowsy.) Also make sure you bring cold medications like DayQuil and Mucinex in case you wake up with a REAL cold!
Breath mints (NOT gum!)—Keep your breath fresh but make sure you don’t end up smacking gum in your photos!
Floss—How mortifying would THAT be to walk down the aisle with food in your teeth??
Hand lotion and chapstick — Quick hack: Rub hand lotion into your hands right before the ceremony to ensure that your ring slides on with ease!
Scissors and superglue— You wouldn’t believe how much I use scissors on the wedding day. And some superglue can come in really handy when the cake topper gets broken (this may or may not have been my own wedding.)
Nail file/clippers — In case something chips…
Travel size deodorants for you and the ladies— Because when you’re walking around in heels and a big dress, you will start to sparkle!
Safety pins and a sewing kit — For when someone proooooobably should have had alterations done or you’ve put on a couple pounds since the last dress fitting! A safety pin can be such a life saver, and a couple of well-placed stitches can save the day!
Tissues —For happy tears! (and maybe cold or allergy season lol)
Feminine toiletries—We REALLY hope you don’t have to use these…
Bandaids — An assorted pack is best, but make sure you include some blister bandaids just in case one of the bridesmaids forgets to break her shoes in. (Not you, of course. Because you’ll remember to wear those shoes around the house to break them in the week before the wedding! Right?) Anyways, I recently had a ring bearer who slammed his fingers in a very heavy door a couple of hours before the ceremony! I was so glad to have some knuckle bandages on hand!
Bug spray— Especially if your reception is outdoors! Choose a natural one though so you don’t smell like DEET. Lol!
Cute umbrellas (Clear or white in case it rains, so you can take cute rain photos! You can even personalize them with a Gobo or initial!)
Baby or makeup remover wipes— Keep your hands clean so you don’t accidentally smudge something on your dress!
Batteries— AAs, or whatever you think you might need if a lighted sign or LED candle goes out!
What this list does NOT include are some other non-emergency items you may need, like a power strip or bluetooth speaker for the bridal suite, lighters for candles, and a couple steamers for the dresses and your veil. Some of those items may be provided by your event rental company, planner, or venue. It’s also not an exhaustive list. You may also have have items on here that are unique to you, like insulin, an Epi Pen, or other medications. Obviously your wedding day would be a bad day to forget about those!
Preparing for the unexpected is such an important part of making sure your wedding day doesn’t turn sour. Double check that these items are included in your emergency kit!
